Tumelo Motsisi

Executive Chairman and Director


Tumelo Motsisi is a prominent South African businessperson with experience in the South African financial services, mining and energy sectors. In 1998, Tumelo established Kopano Ke Matla Investment Company, the investment arm of South Africa’s largest trade union federation, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), and was subsequently appointed Chief Executive Officer of the company. Tumelo also served as Executive Chairperson of Prosperity Holdings, a financial services company established between Kopano Ke Matla, NBC Financial Services and Peregrine Holdings. Tumelo has been a director of Atlatsa since September 2004 and is not a director of any other public companies.

Harold Motaung

Chief Executive Officer


Harold Motaung established the mining and geological consultancy, African Minerals Professionals (Pty) Limited, after his time with the South African Government’s Department of Minerals and Research (DMR). As Deputy Chief Inspector for the DME, Harold was responsible for implementing the Mine, Health and Safety Act and later, as Chief Director of the Mine Inspectorate, he was appointed on numerous boards of government-associated institutions including the National Nuclear Reactor, the Deep Mining Board and the Mining Qualifications Authority. Harold was also a member of the DMR executive team responsible for briefing the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on the status of minerals and energy within the country, which culminated in the enactment of the Minerals Development Act. Harold has been a director of Atlatsa since September 2004 and was appointed CEO on 1 April 2011. He is not a director of any other public companies.

Joel Kesler

Executive Director, Chief Commercial Officer


Joel Kesler is a South African qualified lawyer with 18 years of international experience in mining finance, mergers and acquisitions, business and corporate development. He was a founding member of Atlatsa Holdings in 2002 and was instrumental in effecting the reverse takeover of Atlatsa (previously Anooraq Resources Corporation) in 2004. From 2005 to 2014 Joel has served as Atlatsa’s Chief Commercial Officer, primarily responsible for its corporate and business development, strategy, corporate finance and corporate communications.

Fikile Tebogo De Buck



Fikile Tebogo De Buck is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants FCCA (UK) and has extensive experience in business operations and financial affairs with companies in the mining sector. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and accounting from the University of Swaziland. Fikile is currently a non-executive director of Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited and is a member of various board committees of Harmony, including the Audit Committee. She has also served in various positions at the Council for Medical Schemes in South Africa.

Colin Clarke

Lead Independent Director

Colin Clarke is currently Chairman of Benguela Global Fund managers, a South African asset management firm with both equities and fixed income products. Chairman of the Investment Committee of Sizwe Medical Fund. A member of the Board of Directors, Audit and Risk Committee as well as Chairman of the Compensation Committee for Atlatsa Group Resources a duel listed platinum group minerals company.

Formerly Chairman of the Board of Directors for ACPI Investment Managers South Africa, a subsidiary of London based asset management firm operating in the fixed income, equities, special situations and private equities space. He has extensive experience with listed and multinational organisations including BP Amoco, the African America Institute, the National Empowerment Fund in South Africa and the Africa Regional Assistance Electoral Fund, and the Sloan Financial Groups, NAIF, both private equity funds where he served as legal counsel in the former and a partner in the later. Colin has also served as a Chief Investment Officer for Sishen Iron Ore’s Community Development Trust and He has also served as a Director for the special projects division of Lonrho Africa Plc.

Colin has also served as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Empowerment Fund in South Africa between 2009 and 2010, where he headed the group operations as well as asset management, marketing and communications and strategy and planning. He has many years of international legal, private equity and corporate finance experience with multinational organisations such as BP Amoco, where he served as legal counsel in Western Areas (acquisitions department). Colin has also held the position of Deputy Director for Trade and Investment at the African America Institute and Programme Director for the Africa Regional Assistance Electoral Fund, which was, established to assist African countries’ transition to democracy. Colin is also an Advocate in the High Court of South Africa, and the holder of a Category I FSB licences.

Andile Mabizela

Non-executive Director

Bachelor of Law; BSc (Economics) Hons

Andile Mabizela has extensive experience in the aviation, financial services, mining services and public enterprises sectors. For the past three years he has been an Executive Director of Afrilog, a company engaged in mining supplies services. He has considerable board-level experience, currently serves on the board of South African Airways (SOC) Ltd, and is the Chairman of SA Express (SOC) Ltd. He is also Chairman of the Johannesburg Property Company. Andile previously served on the subsidiary boards of Stanlib Wealth Management as well as the country boards of Liberty Africa Asset Management.

Bongiwe Ntuli

Non-executive Director


Bongiwe Ntuli began her career working for Anglo American PLC where she held various finance, treasury and risk management positions at its subsidiaries in South Africa, Canada and the United Kingdom. Bongile joined Grindrod Freight Services on her return to South Africa in 2008 as its Chief Financial Officer. In 2012, Bongiwe was appointed as a member of the Grindrod group executive committee as Executive: Corporate Services. She also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Adapt IT Holdings Limited, a JSE-listed entity, where she has been audit committee Chairperson since 2008.
